A Brief Description of the Evolution of Inflight Dining

Airplane passengers were once offered frenzied meals at the luxurious Royal Coach. Today, in-flight food is extremely limited and is only available on certain routes. The arbitrary decline in the quality of in-flight food has been attributed to changes in regulation, aircraft design, and increased safety and health concerns.

Only a few airlines, such as Singapore Airlines and Delta, partner with celebrity chefs to improve the quality of their in-flight meals. However, most companies prefer to turn to catering services for food preparation, which gives them the opportunity to save time and money.
